Supporting your child's Speech, Language and Communication Development - 1.5 hours

This course covers all areas of communication development. It gives parents an overview of how speech, language and communication skills develop, and provides a wealth of practical strategies to try out at home. The course is applicable to all parents, whether their children have communication difficulties or not. It is particularly useful for parents of children from birth to four years, but can be adapted to suit individual needs.

Supporting your child with an Autism Spectrum Condition - 1.5 hours

This course is for parents of children with a diagnosis of an autism spectrum condition. A brief overview of autism and the related conditions is given, along with an explanation of how it compares with typical child development. The session largely focuses on practical strategies to support your child's speech, language and communication development. This course is generally aimed at parents of children from two years through the primary school years, but can be adapted to suit individual needs.

Informal Q&A Session - 1 hour

These sessions are a relaxed opportunity to ask all of your burning questions about speech, language and communication. These are led by you

Training for Education Staff

Supporting Speech, Language and Communication in Early Years Settings - 1.5 hours

This course is for practitioners and support staff working in nurseries and other early years settings. It provides an overview of how speech, language and communication skills develop. A range of strategies will be introduced to help encourage communication development with the children you work with, and to make the environment as communication-friendly as possible. Indicators of when a child should be flagged up for speech and language therapy referral will also be discussed.  

Supporting Speech, Language and Communication in Mainstream Schools - 1.5 hours

This course is for teachers and teaching assistants working in mainstream schools. It provides an overview of how speech, language and communication skills develop. A range of strategies will be introduced to help encourage communication development with the children you work with, and to make the environment as communication-friendly as possible. General strategies for supporting children with speech, language and communication needs will also be introduced. Indicators of when a child should be flagged up for speech and language therapy referral will also be discussed.  

Supporting Speech, Language and Communication in Special Schools - 1.5 hours

This course is for teachers and teaching assistants working in special schools. A range of strategies for supporting children with learning difficulties will be introduced. Topics covered include: Intensive interaction, developing cause and effect, introducing switches, objects of reference, signing, symbols and AAC (including PECS, communication books, iPads, eye-gaze and other hi-tech communication devices).
