Speech Sound Difficulties

My primary area of specialism is speech sound difficulties. All children go through a period of time when their speech is difficult to understand, usually when they first start talking. However, for some children, this can persevere. Speech sound difficulties usually have no know cause, though they are also associated with several conditions, such as Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, hearing impairment and cleft palate.

It is important that speech sound difficulties are addressed, as they can cause frustration, anxiety and social isolation. They are also closely associated with literacy difficulties.

If you have concerns about your child's speech sound development, I can carry out a thorough, detailed assessment to determine exactly where their area of difficulty is. I will then use evidence-based approaches to develop a therapy programme, which will help your child work towards clear speech.

I can also offer specialist support to other speech and language therapists in this area, such as second opinion speech sound assessments, programme writing and ongoing supervision.
